Description
Scotland in moonlight, the light caresses the heather on the Cairngorm Mountains, with an impending storm, water runs off the mountains to form the stream below !!!.....
I have based this painting on a favorite artist of mine, ' Archibald Thorburn'
Archibald Thorburn (31 May 1860 - 9 October 1935 Hascombe, Surrey) was a Scottish artist and bird illustrator, painting mostly in watercolour. He regularly visited Scotland to sketch birds in the wild, his favourite haunt being the Forest of Gaick near Kingussie in Invernesshire. His widely reproduced images of British wildlife, with their evocative and dramatic backgrounds
Scotland occupies the northern third of the island of Great Britain, it shares a border with England to the south and is bounded by the North Sea to the east, the Atlantic Ocean to the north and west, and the North Channel and Irish Sea to the southwest. In addition to the mainland, Scotland constitutes over 790 islands including the Northern Isles and the Hebrides. Its also the holiday retreat of our Queen Elizabeth where she spends some of her time fly fishing for salmon. Scotland was once home to Bonnie Prince Charlie and the famous Loch ness monster.
The Cairngorms are a mountain range in the eastern Highlands of Scotland closely associated with the mountain of the same name Cairn Gorm.
Usually referred to as The Cairngorms this 'modern' use of Cairn Gorm to represent the whole range is potentially misleading Watson (1975) refers to it as a nickname explaining that the range's former name is Am Monadh Ruadh the red hills distinguishing them from Am Monadh Liath the grey hills to the west of the River Spey.
