Description
Cannock Chase Forest; was once the hunting ground of ancient royalty and is today a picturesque area of woodland walks, wildlife and superb scenery. At only 26 square miles the Chase is the smallest area to be designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in mainland Britain. Cannock Chase Country Park covers 4.5 square miles (3,000 acres) making it one of the largest country parks in England. Large parts of the Country Park, and other parts of the Chase, are recognised as Sites of Special Scientific Interest which are important wildlife habitats. Also located on the Chase near Sherbrook Valley are a Commonwealth War Cemetery and the German Military Cemetery containing the graves of 5,000 German Servicemen from two World Wars. The Cannock Chase Visitor Centre is located at Marquis Drive and there is a Forestry Museum at Birches Drive, the Forestry Commission's Visitor Centre. Much of the history of the Chase, and its Coal mining tradition, is told in displays and memorabilia at the Cannock Chase Museum in Hednesford. The chase is a haven for sporting activities, such as fishing, mountain biking, nature walks, dog sledge training and dog walking, The wildlife consists of red deer, fallow deer, snakes, buzzards, nightjars, woodpeckers, owls etc; It is also a photographers paradise.Cannock Chase forest; A lonely figure dressed in a red coat, walkes through the forest in the winter snow

This has such a memorable connection for me. Walking through the woods in the snow alone and in deep thought with painting in mind! Love your special snow scenes Jean!!! F/L!!!

This scene is very much like so very many of the places I have walked in solitude... clearing my head and finding inner peace. I can almost feel the crisp air, and see it puffing forth with every step. I can nearly feel my cheeks redden from a cold wind blowing gently as the snow crunches softly beneath my boots. Wonderful of you to take me there Jean... even if it be just within the painting. Thank you.
